Manchester United's new commemorative third kit has today been revealed. Made by Nike the third kit celebrates 40 years since United triumphed in the European Cup Final, with modern day stars Wayne Rooney and Cristiano Ronaldo hoping to once again follow in the steps of 1968 legends Bobby Charlton and George Best.
Manchester United's new third kit features the embroidery "29th May 1968" and has been inspired by the success of the 1968 team, the first English team to win the European Cup.
On that famous night United's legendary players wore a blue kit to defeat Benfica 4-1 at Wembley, leading Nike to create a new kit for 2008/09 season celebrating the 40th anniversary.
Manchester United's current squad of history makers have been out in force backing their new kit to be launched 16th September:
"This club has a great history. We respect the legends and it's great for us to put a shirt on that remembers a great team. I think it's beautiful." - Cristiano Ronaldo
"I think it’s fantastic, I like the traditional kits. I think we should wear kits that represent the history of the club and this one certainly does that. I think you will think about that night and that team when you wear this kit, particularly with the embroidery of the date around the badge. The fans will love it." - Gary Neville
"When you look at the final image you will associate it with the great team of 1968 with the likes of George Best and Bobby Charlton. Obviously they won the European Cup in blue so we hope we can walk in their shoes again with this kit. It's such a big part of the history of the club." - Rio Ferdinand
